Barry Hearn

Barry Hearn (born June 19, 1948 in Dagenham , Essex ) is an English sports promoter and official.

Career

Hearn was chairman of the Leyton Orient soccer club from 1995 to 2014 . He took over the club after previous president Tony Wood put the club in dire financial straits. Since 2006 the club has played in Football League One , the third highest division in England. His company Matchroom Sport is also a sponsor of the club stadium.

In December 2009 he replaced Sir Rodney Walker as chairman of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association , the world association for snooker and English billiards . With his company Matchroom Sport, Hearn had previously promoted numerous events in various sports. At first he concentrated on snooker and boxing ; pool , bowling , golf , fishing , darts ( PDC ), bowls and poker have long been part of it . Since January 2013, Hearn has also been promoting table tennis .

Awards

For his services to the sport of billiards, Hearn was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the Billiards Congress of America in 2013 .

In 2018 he was inducted into the Snooker Hall of Fame .
