The 2011/12 snooker season was a series of snooker tournaments that were part of the Main Tour .
The provisional calendar was published by the World Professional Billiards & Snooker Association (WPBSA) in late 2010. The Brazil Masters was the first tournament in South America and the Australian Goldfields Open was the first tournament in Australia. Also new was the World Cup , which was revived after a decade of hiatus.
The field of participants in the Main Tour this season consisted of 99 - previously 96 - players, which made an additional 5th qualifying round necessary for the ranked tournaments, provided that no more than two players canceled their participation in the tournament.
Otherwise, many innovations from the previous season, such as the Players Tour Championship series or the snooker shoot-out , have been retained.

World ranking
Since the preseason, the snooker world ranking has been updated several times during the season. The updated ranking list then forms the basis for the seeding list for the following tournaments.
This change in the set of rules reflects the current level of performance of the snooker player better and also prevents the same players from clashing again and again. The ranking still covers a period of 24 months. This prevents a player with just one big tournament win from being able to get to the top of the ranking very quickly. Rather, one wants to see continual good performance rewarded.
For the following season, the players ranked 1-64 end of the season qualified, and in addition the green marked player
