The Instituto Chico Mendes de Conservação da Biodiversidade , ICMBio for short , German Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation , is a semi-governmental organization that, together with the state Instituto Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente e dos Recursos Naturais Renováveis (IBAMA), deals with the issues of nature conservation in Brazil. It reports to the Ministry of the Environment, Ministério do Meio Ambiente .

The namesake is the environmental activist and rubber tapping unionist Chico Mendes , who was murdered in 1988 . The ICMBio was founded in 2007 with its headquarters in Brasília . It is integrated into the Sistema Nacional do Meio Ambiente (SISNAMA). President is Rômulo Mello.
