qualification
After the radical cut in the previous year, slightly more than twice as many players were admitted to the tournament this year. The 196 participants were still significantly fewer than the well over 400 participants in previous years. Nevertheless, the qualification dragged on from July 29th to September 3rd again over a month until the participants of the main tournament had been determined in four rounds.
Main tournament
From November 16, the main tournament was played with 64 players.

Century breaks
With 34 century breaks , unusually few were achieved this year, after around 50 had recently been common. After all, John Higgins had a good result with five breaks of 100 points or more.
