The UK Championship 2000 was a snooker tournament , which from November 25 to December 3, 2000 in the International Center of Bournemouth was held. It was won by the Scot John Higgins , who two years earlier had won his first UK Championship in the same place. He defeated last year's winner and world number one Mark Williams 4-0.
For the second time in a row, a maximum break was achieved at the tournament . Englishman Nick Dyson managed the second 147-point break of his career. It was the fifth maximum in tournament history and the first to be achieved in qualification.
Prize money
Again almost £ 50,000 more than in the previous year and thus for the first time over £ half a million were paid out at the tournament. There was little or no increase for the top 16, but the next 16 got £ 1,250 more this year. The new intermediate round of the last 48 was provided with a more significant premium increase.

qualification
It was the last time more than 128 players competed since the tournament opened in 1991. In four qualifying rounds, 16 players were identified who played against the seeded players of the main tournament. They took place immediately before from November 18th to 24th.
Main tournament
After the main tournament had consisted of 64 players for 15 years, who competed against each other in knockout mode, the system was changed this year. The 16 best players were already set for the second round. In the first round, the next 16 players competed against the 16 winners from the qualification.
