The Mission Hills China Open 2000 was a snooker tournament as part of the Snooker Main Tour of the 2000/01 season , which was held in Shenzhen from December 9th to 17th . The first edition of the tournament took place in Shanghai last year. This time the internationally known Golf Resort Mission Hills was the venue, which also acted as the name sponsor.
Ronnie O'Sullivan , who won the tournament debut in 1999, reached the final again. There he met the world champion and world number one Mark Williams . The Englishman won 9: 3 and successfully defended his title. It was his third win in his fourth final this season, the first in a ranking tournament.
Prize money / ranking points
Compared to the first tournament, the prize money increased slightly by around £ 15,000 . Nothing changed for the players from the round of 16, while there were minor increases for the rest of the participants, with the exception of the winners of the last qualifying round who received £ 300 less.
There were also shifts in the points for the world rankings . Especially at the lower end of the field there were significantly more points, this time for 160 instead of 128 tournament participants.

Wildcard round
Instead of three, there were only two wildcards this time , which the Chinese association was allowed to give to local players. Pang Weiguo was allowed to compete for the second time and Cai Jianzhong for the first time. The two Chinese played against the two qualifiers with the lowest ranking in the world rankings before the start of the actual main tournament to get into the main round. As before, none of the amateurs managed to surprise this year.
The games of the wildcard round took place at the start of the tournament on December 9th. Both games were played on 5 winning frames ( best of 9 ).

Final round
For round 1, the 16 winners of the qualification or wildcard games were drawn from the top 16 of the world rankings . As in the previous year, the game was played in best-of-9 mode up to and including the quarter-finals . In the semi-finals, Best of 11 was considered and the final was Best of 17 (9 frames for the win).
final
For Ronnie O'Sullivan and Mark Williams it was the third final meeting of the season. O'Sullivan won the Champions Cup and Williams Grand Prix . Two weeks earlier at the UK Championship , the Welshman had also been in the final and lost. For the Englishman it was a matter of defending his title after his victory last year. O'Sullivan started the final with determination, after the 1-1 he won 6 frames in a row, 5 of them with breaks between 54 and 74 points. The 7-1 score after the first session presented Williams with a difficult task. He fought for the first frame of the evening and then reduced it to 3: 7, but after O'Sullivan had stolen the 11th frame with another high break, that was the preliminary decision and he finished in the next frame to 9: 3 -Victory. The Englishman increased the balance between the two players to 11: 6. For him it was the 9th victory in a ranking tournament.
