Final round
32 players started the main tournament on March 31st. Two days were estimated for the first round, each subsequent round took place on one day.
As in 2007 , five wildcard players made it into the main tournament. This time, however, with Tian Pengfei and Xiao Guodong, two of them even reached the round of 16. The biggest surprise was the first round for world number one and defending champion Stephen Maguire against Dave Harold , who then lost to eventual tournament winner Peter Ebdon . The success of Stuart Pettman was also surprising : The world number 62. defeated three top 16 players and achieved the best result of his career with the semi-finals.
final
For Peter Ebdon it was the first final at this tournament, for John Higgins including the previous tournament China International (1999) the third. Ebdon was only behind once at 0: 1 and was then already 6: 4. But Higgins equalized again and kept the game open until 8: 8 before Ebdon could decide two frame wins in a row.
