Mark Gray (born August 16, 1973 in Bourne , Lincolnshire ) is an English pool player and former snooker player .

Career

Gray began his career as a snooker player, where he was number 79 in the world rankings and already achieved respectable success. In 1997 he was even able to defeat Jimmy White 5: 4 at the British Open . But then he switched to pool, where he is now one of the world's best. Due to consistently good results at tournaments of the Euro-Tour he was the front runner in the overall ranking from December 2007 to September 2008. He has won six Euro Tour tournaments so far ( Swiss Open 2007 , Costa del Sol Open 2009 , Treviso Open 2011 , Dutch Open 2014 , Treviso Open 2015 and Austrian Open 2016 ).

He achieved his next major success at the 10 Ball World Cup in 2008 , where he made it to the second round. Because of his achievements he was invited to the World Pool Masters 2008 , but lost just in the first round to Alex Pagulayan . His best placement so far at an individual world championship he achieved at the 9-ball World Cup 2011 , where he made it to the semi-finals. In August 2015 he achieved his best result at the World Pool Masters by reaching the semi-finals .

Together with Daryl Peach , he reached the final of the 3rd World Cup of Pool in 2008 , but then lost to Team USA.

At the pool team world championship 2010 he was part of the victorious English quintet.

In 2008 he was part of the European team at the Mosconi Cup for the first time . The Europeans were able to prevail 11: 3 against the USA. The European team also won the continental comparison in its two subsequent participations ( 2014 , 2016 ).

His nickname in the billiards scene is Granite .
