The Mosconi Cup is an annual 9-ball pool tournament in which a team from Europe competes against a team from the USA . Each team consists of five to eight players. It has been held annually since 1994 in honor of the billiards legend Willie Mosconi, who died in 1993 .

So far, the teams have regularly included some of the best known and best pool players in the world. So far, Earl Strickland and Johnny Archer have competed most frequently for the USA , while Niels Feijen , Mika Immonen and the German Ralf Souquet have participated most frequently for Europe .

The Mosconi Cup has switched game modes several times since its inception. In the first two tournaments they played on 16 points; this number has been reduced over the years, now only 11 won sets are required (i.e. a best-of-21 mode).

In the first Mosconi Cup in 1994, each team had two female players. Franziska Stark and Allison Fisher started for Europe, Jeanette Lee and Vivian Villarreal for the USA . This rule was abolished for subsequent tournaments.

In 2005 the shot clock was introduced. Each player now only has 30 seconds for his shot.

Live broadcast

In Germany , the streaming provider DAZN will broadcast the 27th Mosconi Cup from December 1st to 4th, 2020 from Alexandra Palace in London .
