Jayson Shaw (born September 13, 1988 ) is a Scottish pool player . He became world champion in blackball in 2010 .

Career

singles

In 2006 Shaw finished 46th at the IPT World Open. At the US Open he came in 33rd place. At the EM 2008 he finished 33rd in 9-ball and 65th in 8-ball . In the same year he managed to make it into the finals for the first time on the Euro Tour . However, he was defeated at the Netherlands Open and the Costa del Sol Open in the sixteenth finals against Šandor Tot and Ralf Souquet respectively 6: 9.

In 2009 Shaw reached the quarter-finals at the Austrian Open , which he lost to the German Jakob Belka . At the World Pool Masters 2010 he was eliminated in the round of 16 against the Philippine Roberto Gomez . At the US Open he came in 17th place. At the Great Britain 9-Ball Tour he reached the final once in 2010, in which he was defeated by the Englishman Imran Majid , and was third and fifth twice. In addition, he was blackball world champion in 2010 .

After Shaw was knocked out 8: 9 in the last 16 at the French Open against the eventual finalist Nick van den Berg , he made it into the finals of a Euro Tour for the first time at the Italy Open by winning against Thomas Mehtala , Konstantin Stepanow and Chris Melling -Tournaments to collect. However, he lost this against German Ralf Souquet 6: 9. At the Austria Open , he was eliminated in the sixteenth finals against Daryl Peach . At the German Open he then reached the quarterfinals, which he lost to Manuel Ederer . at the Hungary Open he was only eliminated in the semifinals against Souquet. At the US Open 2011 he reached the 25th place. In addition, he won a tournament on the GB 9-Ball Tour for the first time in 2011 and came third once.

At the Italy Open 2012 Shaw made it to the quarter-finals, but lost it to the eventual finalist David Alcaide 4-8. At the Austria Open , he was eliminated in the round of 32 against the Norwegian Kristoffer Mindrebøe . After finishing 33rd at the 9-Ball World Cup in 2012 , he reached the quarter-finals of the German Open 2012 , where he lost 6-8 to eventual tournament winner Daryl Peach. At the US Open in 2012, Shaw came in ninth place. He also won two GB 9-Ball Tour tournaments and was third on the tour once.

In 2013, Shaw finished fifth in 14/1 endless and 48th in 9-ball at the Derby City Classic . In the Ultimate 10-Ball Championship, he came in 25th place. In 2013 he finished ninth at the US Open 10-Ball , fourth at the US Open 8-Ball and third at the 9-Ball US Open. At the World 14.1 Tournament 2013 he reached the quarter-finals, which he lost against the eventual winner Thorsten Hohmann with 24: 200.

At the Derby City Classic 2014 , Shaw finished fifth in 14/1, 10-ball and seventh in the bank pool . At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2014 , he was eliminated in the round of 64 against South Korean Jeong Young-hwa with 9:11. At the World 14.1 Tournament he reached the round of 16 and lost it 114: 200 against the German André Lackner . A month later, Shaw won the 2014 Turning Stone Casino Classic .

In January 2015 he managed to defend the title at the Turning Stone Casino Classic in the final against John Morra . At the Derby City Classic 2015 , he finished second in the Straight Pool Challenge. In July 2015 he reached the round of 16 of the 14th World Tournament and was defeated by the German Joshua Filler . In August 2015 he was invited for the second time to the World Pool Masters , where he was eliminated in the round of 16 against Waleed Majid . A few days later he won the Turning Stone Casino Classic again in the final against Mike Dechaine . He finished fifth at the 2015 US Open .

In January 2016, Shaw finished fifth at the Turning Stone Casino Classic . At the Derby City Classic 2016 he won the Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge in the final against Shane van Boening . In the bank pool competition he lost the final to John Brumback . In February 2016, he won his third Euro Tour medal at the Italian Open , after being knocked out 8: 9 in the semifinals against Mieszko Fortuński , the eventual winner of the tournament. Also at the North Cyprus Open 2016 he was eliminated in the semifinals against the eventual tournament winner, against the Austrian Mario He . In August 2016 he reached the quarter-finals of the 9-ball world championship for the first time , but had to admit defeat to eventual world champion Albin Ouschan 7:11. A few weeks later he won the 26th Turning Stone Casino Classic with a 13-5 final win over Karen Corr . At the World 14.1 Tournament 2016 he was eliminated in the semifinals against Earl Strickland . A few days later he won the International Challenge of Champions in the final against Shane van Boening . In October 2016, he finished third at the US Open . A few days later, he won the Steinway Classic again by beating van Boening in the final. In November 2016, he reached the final of the first edition of the Kuwait Open and defeated the Taiwanese Chang Jung-Lin , against whom he was eliminated at the US Open, with 13:10.

In January 2017, Shaw won the 27th Turning Stone Classic in the final against Rodney Morris . A few days later he reached the last sixteen at the Molinari Players Championship , the first tournament of the World Pool Series , which he lost to Johann Chua at 11:15 . At the 2017 Derby City Classic , he won the Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge again by beating Alexander Kazakis in the final 11: 7 . In addition, he finished third in the Straight Pool Challenge and 17th in the 9-ball competition. In February 2017 he took part in the World Pool Masters for the third time and made it past the round of 16 for the first time. After victories against Wojciech Szewczyk , Alex Pagulayan and Chang Jung-Lin, he finally moved into the final, where he lost 7: 8 to the Spaniard David Alcaide.

At the World Cup of Pool 2013 , Shaw and Jonni Fulcher formed the Scottish team that lost in the first round to the Dutch Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg.

In 2016 Shaw was the first Scot to join the European team at the Mosconi Cup . In the 11-3 victory of the Europeans against the USA he was used five times and won three games, including the decisive match in which he defeated Mike Dechaine 5-1.
