Jeong Young-hwa (born October 22, 1971 ) is a South Korean pool player .

Career

Jeong Young-hwa achieved his first major success in 2001 when he qualified for the 9-Ball World Cup. However, he was eliminated with only one win in the preliminary round. In August of the same year, however, he reached the second round of the World Games , which he lost to the German Thomas Engert . In the World All Stars Pro Tour, he finished ninth. At the 9-Ball World Cup in 2002 , Jeong again finished 65th. In October he finished third in the 9-ball singles at the Asian Games and second in doubles with Kim Won-suk . He also achieved third and ninth place once on the International Billiard Council Tour in 2002.

In January 2003 Jeong finished 37th in the bank pool and 59th in 9-ball at the Derby City Classic . Four months later he finished 17th at the BCA Open. In July he achieved his best result so far at the 9-Ball World Cup , when he was only eliminated in the round of 16. In addition, Jeong reached the 2003 United States Professional Poolplayers Association (UPA) Tour, the Joss Northeast Tour and the Seminole Pro Tour once in second place. In the Asian 9-Ball-Tour he finished fifth once.

At the 9-ball World Cup 2004 , Jeong was eliminated in the preliminary round. In contrast, he won a tournament on the Seminole Pro Tour in 2004 and came third once. In the Asian 9-Ball-Tour he reached a third and a fifth place, in another tournament the final, but lost against the Filipino Efren Reyes with 10:12. In the same year he reached fifth place on the Planet Pool Tour and ninth place on the UPA tour. In 2005 Jeong reached 25th place at the US Open . His best result on the Asian 9-Ball Tour was ninth, and on the UPA Tour it was 13th.

In 2006 Jeong Young-hwa finished fifth in the Asian 9-Ball Tour. At the 9-ball world championships in 2006 and 2007 , he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2008 he reached the finals of the 10-Ball World Cup , where he was eliminated in the round of 64 against his compatriot Ryu Seung-woo .

At the Philippines Open 2009 Jeong finished 30th. In July he finished 33rd at the China Open . At the World Games 2009 Jeong reached the round of 16, as in 2001, but lost it to Leonardo Didal from the Philippines . As in the previous year, Jeong was eliminated in the round of 64 at the 2009 10-Ball World Cup . In 2010 he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 9-Ball World Cup . In September 2010 he reached 17th place at the China Open. In November 2010 he finished third in 9-ball at the Asian Games .

At the 9-ball World Cup 2013 Jeong Young-hwa was eliminated again in the preliminary round. At the Japan Open , he was eliminated in the round of 64 against Canadian Alex Pagulayan . In 2014 Jeong Young-hwa reached the final round of the 9-ball world championship for the first time since 2003 . He was defeated in the sixteenth finals to the Austrian Mario He with 10:11. In February 2015 he was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 10-Ball World Cup without a win.

Jeong Young-hwa has taken part twice in the World Cup of Pool and was eliminated in the first round. In 2006 he and Lee Gun-Jae lost to the Englishmen Steve Davis and Daryl Peach , in 2014 he lost with Ha Minuk to the Finns Mika Immonen and Petri Makkonen .

With the South Korean team, Jeong also took part in the Team World Cup in 2010 and 2014 , although they were eliminated in the preliminary round. He also took part in the World Pool-Billiard Continental Team Cup in 2003 and finished fifth with the Asian team.

Jeong currently lives in Bucheon . He plays a Universal brand cue .
