Bucheon ( Kor. 부천 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do . The city lies directly and almost seamlessly between the megacities Incheon in the west and Seoul in the east. Bucheon is a cultural center in the greater Seoul area. The Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the most famous in Korea and has hosted the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival since 1997 . Many processing companies are located in the city.

There are several higher education institutions in the city including Bucheon College , Yuhan College , Catholic University of Korea, and Seoul Theological University . Bucheon is also home to the K-League football club Bucheon SK . In terms of transport, the city is relatively well developed with the Seoul subway line passing through it and an intersecting network of expressways. The Young An Hat Company , a Korean conglomerate, is headquartered in Bucheon.

Due to its very small urban area, which is constrained by hills on three sides, Bucheon has a high population density of almost 16,000 inhabitants per square kilometer, even for Asian cities .

On September 11, 1998, a gas accident occurred in Bucheon .

Pronunciation of the name

The name Bucheon consists of two syllables. The first syllable is Bu , the second is cheon . This begins with an aspirated ch as in Chad , followed by an open o as in Organ and ends with a normal n .
