Yangju ( 양주시 ) is a city in Gyeonggi-do Province in South Korea . The city has over 225,000 inhabitants and is located in the Sudogwon region .
Attractions
Yangju is home to the Jangheun Art Gallery with six exhibition halls and side programs such as outdoor performances and sculptures. Yangju also has an astronomical observatory and a planetarium which are open to the public. There was also a Dae Jang Geum theme park in the city, which housed the locations and sets for the famous Korean television drama Daejanggeum , but it was closed in late 2011 due to ongoing vandalism.
Infrastructure
There are 3 subway stations covered by the Seoul Metropolitan Mass Transit System. The drive from central Seoul to the first station in Yangju takes about 70 minutes. In addition, numerous public buses run between Seoul, Uijeongbu and Yeoncheon , which is close to the border with North Korea and the demilitarized zone.
Sports
Yangju Citizen FC football club is based in the city. It was founded in 2007 and played in the K3 League Basic (2019).
