Uijeongbu ( kor. 의정부 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do . It borders on Yangju in the west and north , Pocheon in the north, Namyangju in the east and the capital Seoul in the south .
Uijeongbu is connected to Seoul by Line 1 and Line 7 (south Dong Jang-am) of the Seoul Subway .
Since the city is between Seoul and the nearby border with North Korea , many Korean and US bases are in this area to defend the capital. The US 2nd Infantry Division has its headquarters here, but the majority of the troops are stationed in Dongducheon . Due to its location on the front, the city - in the fifties still a small village essentially made up of improvised barracks - was also chosen as the setting for the television series M * A * S * H.
The city is also known for the Budaejjigae stew . There is a Budaejjigae Street here , where many restaurants specializing in dishes are concentrated.
