Gimpo ( kor. 김포 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do .

The city is located on the Hangang in the metropolitan area of Sudogwon and is close to Gimpo Airport , which is the second largest commercial airport in South Korea and is called Gimpo, but is located in the far west of the capital Seoul . The city is connected to the Seoul Ring Expressway . Mayor is Yoo Young-rok ( 유영록 ).

The first historical mention of the Gimp was in 475 during the Three Kingdoms of Korea . On April 1, 1998, Gimpo was raised to city ( -si ) status .
