Hwaseong ( kor. 화성 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do . It is located south of the two major cities Incheon and Seoul . It is connected to Seoul by subway line 1, among other things .
It was in the city that South Korea's first known serial murder occurred . Ten women were murdered between October 1986 and April 1991. The police announced in September 2019 that the perpetrator had been caught using DNA tests. The case was filmed in 2003 by Bong Joon-ho under the title Memories of Murder .
