Dongducheon ( kor. 동두천 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do .
Geographical location
The city is located in a mountainous region of South Korea between Seoul and the demilitarized zone . It has 97,424 inhabitants. The 587 m high Soyosan mountain northeast of the city is a popular destination.
history
In 1981, Dongducheon received city ( -si ) status . Mayor is Oh Se-chang ( 오세창 ).
economy
Due to the city's location between Seoul and the demilitarized zone, there are a number of United States Forces Korea bases ( Camp Casey , Camp Castle , Camp Hovey , Camp Mobile and Camp Nimble ) in the city. The bases take up 42.47% of the urban area.
Culture
The Dongducheon Rock Festival , which takes place annually in August, is one of the largest festivals of its kind in South Korea with over 30,000 visitors.
There is an aviation museum in the city.
