Camp Casey is a base of the US Army in South Korea Dongducheon , about 40 Miles north of the capital Seoul . It is home to the headquarters of the 210th Fires Brigade (210th Artillery Brigade ) of the 2nd US Infantry Division , the core unit of the 8th US Army .

Camp Casey was named in 1952 after Major Hugh Boyd Casey , who was killed in a plane crash near the base in the Korean War and who was the holder of the Distinguished Service Cross .

The base is one of many Army bases near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on the border with North Korea , such as Camp Castle and the neighboring Camp Hovey , where strong forces of the 2nd US Infantry Division are concentrated.

Camp Casey covers an area of around 14 square kilometers and offers accommodation for 6,300 soldiers and 2,500 civilian employees.

assignment

The base forms a strong military presence at the DMZ, primarily to act as a deterrent against any invasion plans from outside, and secondarily to support the national defense of South Korea in the event of war. The base thus makes a contribution to the territorial integrity of South Korea and the alliance between South Korea and the United States .
