Gapyeong County ( Korean : 가평군 , Gapyeong-gun ) is located in Gyeonggi-do Province . The administrative headquarters are located in Gapyeong-eup City. The district had an area of 844 km² and a population of 63,462 inhabitants in 2019.
Gapyeong is known for its natural beauty and borders the mountainous province of Gangwon-do in the east . The northern branch of the Hangang flows through the area. There are several reservoirs and resorts in the region. The holiday island of Namiseom is not exclusively in the district, but very close to the south of Gapyeong.
The county was the site of the Battle of Kapyong , a major battle of the Korean War .
