Pocheon (pronunciation: [pʰo.tɕʰʌn]) is a South Korean city in northeast Gyeonggi Province . The city borders on Yeoncheon County to the northwest , the cities of Dongducheon , Yangju and Uijeongbu to the west and Namyangju (Gyeonggi Province) to the south . The highest mountains in Gyeonggi Province are located in Pocheon. Today's city of Pocheon was created after the former Pocheon-hyeon and Yeonpyeong counties merged. The north of Pocheon was part of Yeonpyeong County, the south part of Pocheon-hyeon.

geography

Since parts of the Gwangju Mountains are located in Pocheon, large parts of the urban area are sparsely populated mountain regions. The only exception is the Pocheon Basin. Pocheon is located on two rivers, the Yeongpyeongcheon River and the Sannaecheon River. Several other tributaries flow into it. Since both valleys are very wide, they can be used as cultivation and residential areas

The arboretum is also home to the Gwangneung Forest Museum and Gwangneung Forest Beach .

Another attraction is Gallery Sansawon , a traditional Korean brewery . She owns more than 1,000 historical documents and Korean alcohol-related items. Festivals

Pocheon hosts the Gakhol Culture Festival, Banwol Culture Festival, Sanjeong Lake Festival and Myeongseong Mountain Festival every year. Sanjeong Lake Festival, held every October since 1997, is a representative cultural festival of Pocheon with reference to the nature of Sanjeong Lake and Myeongseong Mountains.
