Ansan ( kor. 안산 ) is a city in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi-do . It is located southwest of the capital Seoul and is connected to it by the Seoul subway line 4 , among other things . It is also south of Incheon , which like Seoul is independent of the province, and west of the provincial capital Suwon .
Ansan is on the coast of the Yellow Sea , called the West Sea in Korea. Numerous islands lie in the administrative area of the city, the most famous and largest of which is Daebudo .
There are several colleges in Ansan including Ansan College , Ansan College of Technology , Seoul Institute of the Arts, and a Hanyang University campus .
Sihwa-ho is currently the world's largest turbine tidal power plant in Ansan .
Because of the large number of ethnic Korean immigrants from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk , Ansan is twinned with this city.
