Yangju Citizen FC is a soccer franchise based in Yangju , South Korea . The club plays in the K3 League Basic , the fifth highest division in South Korea. The club is a founding member of the K3 League .
history
In 2007 a new football league started with the K3 League . Since the requirements of the new amateur league were significantly lower than those of the Korea National League , the city of Yangju founded its own club and registered it for the K3 League's inaugural season. Jeong Yong-hwan was the club's first coach.
First years (2007-2011)
Your first season was bad. At the end of the first half of the season, the club was only ninth. As a consequence of the poor performance in the first half of the season, the coach was dismissed after the first half of the season. For him came Ryu Bong-ki . The second half went better. The second half of the season could be finished on a 7th place in the table. The club missed the championship round far. The squad was completely reorganized for the following season. They were able to finish the first half of the season on a 5th place in the table, the second half even on the second place, with which they could qualify for the championship round and at the same time for the first time for the Korean FA Cup . In the semi-finals of the championship round you played against Yongin Citizen FC , which you could defeat 5-4 on penalties. In the final they met Hwaseong Shinwoo Electronics FC . The first leg ended goalless with 0-0. The second leg ended 2-2. Thanks to the away goal regulation, the club won the league championship for the first time.
In the following season, the goal of defending the title was issued. The club missed the goal by far. At the end of the season they finished the season on a very bad 10th place in the table and even missed qualifying for the Korean FA Cup because of a worse goal difference. In the premiere cup season, the club did not get far either. In the first round you played against Sun Moon University , against which you lost 0: 1. At the end of the season, Ryu Bong-ki also had to leave the club.
The 2010 season was again better for the club. The club was drawn from group B with a total of 9 other clubs. At the end of the season they were in 2nd place and qualified again for the championship round. In the semifinals they met again on the club Samcheok Shinwoo Electronics FC, which has meanwhile moved to Sancheok . The game ended 0-0, but the club had to bow to Sancheok 5-6 on penalties. In 2011 the club was able to assert itself in the group stage and reach 1st place. This time FC Pocheon was received in the championship semifinals . The game ended with 1: 1. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the club was able to prevail 4: 3 against Pocheon and thus qualify for the final again. In the final they played against Gyeongju Citizen FC . The first leg ended 1-1 in Yangju. Gyeongju won the second leg 3-2 thanks to a goal in the 89 minute game. The club narrowly failed in the final. Your second cup season was again bad. In the first round they played against Honam University , against which they lost 4-0.
Slide into mediocrity (2012-2016)
In the following years, the club could hardly participate in the league championship. In 2012, the club reached third place in the group stage, three points behind the runner-up. So the season ended earlier than planned in Yangju. The cup season went better this time. In the first round they received the Dongguk University , which they could beat 3: 1. In the second round they met the second division Gimhae City FC . The game ended with 1: 1, but the club had to look it up in the penalty shootout with 4: 5. The following season was one of their worst seasons to date. In the group stage, the club did not come out on the 6th place in the table and thus missed the championship games by far. The club also retired early in the cup. In the first main round they received the Kyung Hee University , against which they were defeated by just 1: 2.
In 2014 the club repositioned itself, but this time again it was unable to reach the championship round. In the end it was only enough for a 5th place in the table. In the cup, however, things went better. In the 1st main round they competed against Dong-a-University , against which they could win the game 2-1. In the second main round, they then played at Cheonan City FC , against which they were, however, defeated by just 2: 3. In 2015, the club was able to reach the championship round for the first time. Thanks to a 3rd place in the table, the club was able to compete in the quarterfinals of the championship round against Gyeongju Citizen FC. The game was just lost again with 2: 3. In the cup season, the club competed in the first main round against league rivals Hwaseong FC , against whom they clearly lost 3-0.
The 2016 season was a special season for all K3 League members, as it was about the reorganization of the K3 League. For the first time, all members competed against each other once to qualify for the new K3 League Advance and the new K3 League Basic . During the season the club was the surprise of the year. At the end of the season, the club was able to assert itself in 4th place and qualified not only for the new K3 League Advance, but also for the championship round. In the quarterfinals, the club faced Cheongju City FC . The game ended 1-1. However, since Cheongju had home rights, the game was automatically considered lost for Yangju. The cup season turned out to be its best season to date. In their first round, the club prevailed against Ajou University 4-3 . In the subsequent 3rd main round, however, the club had to give up Gyeongju Citizen FC again 1: 2.
Present (2017–)
The first K3 League Advance season went very badly. The club issued the goal of relegation. In the end, the season ended in last place in the table and was relegated directly to the K3 League Basic. In the cup, the club was eliminated again in their first round. The club lost 1-0 against Daejeon Korail FC . In 2018, the club wanted to aim for a resurgence. At the end of the season they placed 5th, which qualified them for the play-off game. In the play-off game, the club played against Chungju Citizen FC . The game ended 0-0 in Chungju. Since the opposing team owned the home right here, the game was lost for Yangju and the club missed out on promotion. In the cup, the club was able to advance into the second main round. In the first main round, the club went to league competitor Goyang Citizen FC , which they won 3-0 with confidence. Subsequently, however, the club lost to Chuncheon FC with 0-2.
