history
prehistory
In 1995, the franchise Yukong Elephants , whose owner SK Energy is known, to move their club to Bucheon and to rename the club to Bucheon Yukong . The 1996 season was her debut season in Bucheon . From 1997 they competed under the name Bucheon SK . During their time in Bucheon, the club was able to win the League Cup twice in 1996 and 2000. Furthermore, they were third in the Korean FA Cup in 1996, 2000 and 2003 and in 2004 they even reached the final, which they lost to Busan I´Cons 3: 4 on penalties . In 1999 they were third in the K League and a year later in 2000 they were even runner-up. The club developed from 1996 to 2006 into one of the most popular clubs in South Korea.
In 2006, however, SK Energy announced that it would move the club to the city of Seogwipo , Jeju-do , and rename the club Jeju United . The reason given was the K-League relocation regulations, which stipulated that every World Cup stadium from 2002 should be used subsequently.
In response to the move, there were many anti-move protests across South Korea. Bucheon fans also protested about the move at the 2006 World Cup in Germany .
In response to FC United of Manchester , Bucheon fans founded the Bucheon FC 1995 club in December 2007 . The number 1995 stands for the year in which the move and the start of Bucheon Elephants / Bucheon SK were announced. The club registered for 2008 in the K3 League , the country's amateur football association.
Early years and first successes (2008–2009)
Kwang Chang-kyu was introduced as the club's first coach . In their first year in the K3 League, the club was able to reach 13th place as a newcomer. In 2009 the club was able to improve significantly and at the end of the season even reached a surprising 4th place in the league. Kwang Chang-kyu left the club after the end of the season. As an interim solution, Park was Yeong-su , who quickly rose to become the club's new coach.
Continuity in the K3 League (2010–2012)
Under Park Yeong-su, the club was unable to build on its previous year's success, but achieved a respectable midfield position in the K3 League. At the end of the season they finished 7. In the same season, the club was allowed to participate in the Korean FA Cup for the first time . In the first round, the club met Korea University , which they defeated 4-0. In the second round, however, they met Cheonan City FC , which they had lost 1: 2 at home.
In the following season 2011 the club reached an 8th place. In the cup they failed in the first round at home at Kyung Hee University with 2: 3 early. In the first league cup they were eliminated against Asan United FC with 1: 2 in the quarter-finals.
In 2012 a new trainer was introduced with Kwak Kyeong-keun . Under him, the club again only reached 8th place in the league. Also in the cup they failed again in the first round against Police FC with 0: 4. In the last league cup to date, the club reached the semi-finals, but lost 3-1 at the later league cup winner Icheon Citizen FC .
The K League announced for the inaugural season of the K League Challenge that Bucheon FC will take part in the inaugural season in 1995. The club left the K3 League in 2012 and joined the K League at the beginning of 2013.
First K League seasons (2013-2016)
The first K League Challenge season was a fiasco. The club finished the season in penultimate 7th place. The cup season was also a fiasco. In their first round they were eliminated from fourth division Jeonbuk Maeil FC with 1: 3 on penalties. At the end of the season, Kwak Kyeong-keun was on leave from the club.
Yun Jeong-chun became the interim coach for a few days before the new coach, Choi Jin-han, was introduced. Under him, the club could not improve in the league, on the contrary. At the end of the season they were last with 7 points behind the penultimate. Another small success was celebrated in the cup. In their first round they met Sangji University , which they clearly won 4-0. In the following round, however, they narrowly failed with 0: 1 to Gwangju FC . Despite the failure in the league, Choi Jin-han was not given leave of absence.
In 2015, the club only played in the lower table region. The club only acted between 8th and 9th place in the league. On May 29, 2015, however, the club pulled the rip cord at Choi Jin-han's and put him on leave. Song Seon-ho was hired as an interim coach . Under him, the club became stable again and fought their way up to 5th place by the end of the season. The club was also able to record successes in the cup. In their first round, the club met third division Gimhae City FC , which they won 1-0. In the following 4th main round, the club met the old rival from the Bucheon SK time Incheon United . However , they lost the Kongsami derby 2-0.
In 2016 the club was able to improve in the league and was able to qualify for the first time for the K-League play-offs with 3rd place. In the play-off final, however, they failed at home in added time to Gangwon FC with 1: 2. They could cause a sensation in the cup. In their first main round they met Halla University , which they won with 3: 1. In the 4th main round they caused a surprise for the first time. They beat the Pohang Steelers 2-0 away in Pohang . In the last sixteen they met the fourth division Gyeongju Citizen FC , which they won again with 3: 1. In the quarter-finals, they met Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors , who beat them 3-2 in Jeonju and thus caused the cup surprise of the year. It was only in the semifinals that they failed very close to FC Seoul with 0: 1.
Present (2017–)
In 2017, the club only reached 5th place in the league and slipped very narrowly past the play-off games. In the cup, the club was able to build on old successes. In their first main round they faced Incheon University , which they could beat 2-0. In the 4th main round they met again on Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors , which they could beat again. They won the cup game 4-2 on penalties. In the round of 16, however, the club failed to Sangju Sangmu FC with 0: 2 and was eliminated earlier than last year. In 2018, the club wanted to reach the play-off games. Up to the 20th matchday the club was able to assert itself among the best four teams before the club crashed and slipped down to 9th place. As a result, Jeong Kab-seok had to leave the club on September 16. Jo Min-hyeok took over on an interim basis until the end of October , before the club could sign their former coach Song Seon-ho again. In the cup, the club was eliminated surprisingly early. The club lost in their first main round against Busan IPark with 1: 2.
The 2019 season was approached with a completely changed squad. Up to the 7th matchday, the club was able to hold on to the play-off places before the club slipped to 8th place. However, the club was able to make up the points deficit on fourth-placed Ansan Greeners FC in the last four games and qualified for the play-off games on the last day of the game. In these, the club had to compete against rival FC Anyang . The game ended in Anyang 2-2. Since they were the away team and Anyang had home rights, Anyang automatically won the play-off game and the club was eliminated from the play-off games. The club also retired early in the cup. They lost 3-1 in their first main round against Seoul E-Land FC.

Fan scene
The fan scene consists of various active fan groups. The largest and most important Ultras group is the Hermes group . This group was founded in Bucheon SK times. After the club moved to Jeju in 2006, the group, like FC United of Manchester, founded their own club, Bucheon FC 1995. The group itself consists of around one hundred active fans. The Hermes group attracts attention again and again due to excesses and the use of pyrotechnics in the football scene.
rivalry
Anyang fans currently have three active rivals, arch rivals Jeju United , Anyang FC and Incheon United FC . The fan community has a friendship with the fans of Pyeongtaek Citizen FC .
The 2nd Hanpuri Derby (in German: Contempt Derby) is based on the same historical and political significance as the 1st Hanpuri Derby . The derby is always played against the successor SK club Jeju United. The Bucheon fans therefore refer to the Jeju fans as Nampae (in English: traitors from the south). As with Anyang LG Cheetahs, Bucheon SK was rooted in the city, but moved away despite its strong ties to the city. The Hermes supporters do not recognize the successor club, as well as FC Seoul, which has the same past. The Bucheon Jeju fan camps are considered enemies.
The Dongbyeongsangryeon Derby is considered the second division super match in South Korea and is always played against FC Anyang. Both clubs and fan camps suffered the same fate: while Anyang LG Cheetahs moved to Seoul in 2004, Bucheon SK had to move away from Bucheon at the end of 2005. As in Anyang, Bucheon SK had deep roots in their city. In 2013, both clubs joined the K League and from then on met each other every season. While the derby was a solidarity derby in the first few seasons, a real derby developed due to the sporting and geographical proximity. Both fan camps are considered enemies.
The Kongsami-Derby (in German: Kong = 0, Sam = 3, I = 2; 031-Derby) is a neighborhood derby between Bucheon and Incheon. The derby was first played between Incheon United and Bucheon SK, but since SK moved away from Bucheon FC in 1995. Due to the geographical proximity (right next to each other), both fan camps are hostile.
- Relationship with FC Seoul and Seongnam FC
The Bucheon fans reject Jeju United, FC Seoul and Seongnam FC due to their historical significance. As in Bucheon, Cheonan Ilhwa Chunma moved to Seongnam, although the club was rooted in Cheonan. The same applies to FC Seoul (see Dongbyeongsangryeon Derby). The duels against both clubs are not considered derbies.
