Seoul Nowon United FC is a soccer franchise based in Seoul , South Korea . The club takes part in the K3 League Basic , the fifth highest division in South Korea. The club is a founding member of the K3 League .

history

founding

The idea of ​​founding Seoul United FC came up in 2001 with Michael Atkinson and a group of Ultras. The aim was to bring professional football back to the city of Seoul . Because of the decentralization policy of the K League , in which the big clubs should play in the province, this movement arose.

After Anyang LG Cheetahs announced their move to Seoul in 2003 , plans to set up Seoul United FC were abandoned. In 2007 the K3 League was founded. Two amateur teams then decided to merge their teams (Good Bu & Bu (Good Friends FC) and Youngseo FC (Jin Seoul)) and to found the club for the 2007 season and register it in the K3 League.

First year, first success (2007)

In their first season, Seoul United FC was third in the first half of the season and second in the second half, which enabled them to qualify for the K3 League championship. They met Cheonan FC in the semifinals . After 120 minutes the score was 1: 1. The club won 3-1 on penalties and reached the final. In the final, they played in the first leg in Hwasung at Hwaseong Shinwoo Electronics FC . They won the first leg 1-0. They won the second leg in Seoul 2-0 and were the first K3 League champions.

Further years and the descent (2008-2016)

In 2008 they went to the K3 League as defending champions. There they were only 5. They qualified for the Korean FA Cup, but could not take part in the championship games. The cup season didn't go that well either. In the 2nd round they won 3-0 against Jeonju EM FC , but then failed in the 3rd round, on penalties at Korea University and were eliminated early.

In 2009 they could no longer build on their previous season. In the league they reached only a disappointed 13th place after the end of the season. The cup season ended better. In the first round they had to play against Yongin FC and won 1-0 at home. In the second round they played against the U-League member Jeonju University and also won this game 1-0. In the 3rd round they met Kyunghee University . There it was 1: 1 after 120 minutes. The team lost 3: 4 on penalties and was eliminated from the cup.

In 2010 the K3 League was reformed. Seoul United FC competed in Group B. At the end of the season they reached 5th place, but again could not qualify for the championship games. In 2010, the club did not take part in the Korean FA Cup because it had not qualified for him athletically.

In 2011 they were drawn into group A. There they reached the 5th place. The club could not qualify for the championship games again. The cup season ended very early for the club. In the first round they met Kwangwoon University and had to admit defeat 3: 4 at home.

In 2012 they were drawn into group B. There they only achieved a disappointing 6th place. As in the previous year, the cup season was only very short. In the first round they met Hannam University . At home they had to admit defeat 2: 4.

2013 was their worst season to date. The K3 League separated them into group B. There they were third from bottom. Also in the cup they were eliminated in the first round. The team met at home at Honam University . The game ended 0: 3 for the away team.

In 2014, the K3 League lost them to Group A. There, as in the previous year, they finished third from bottom. In the first round of the cup they met Sangji University . The team lost 1-0 in extra time and was eliminated very early.

In 2015, the K3 League lost them in Group B. There they came in last. In the cup, the team only started in round 2. There they met again at Sangji University. This game was lost 3-0 after 90 minutes.

In 2016 the K3 League was reformed. Since the K3 League wanted to introduce a two-league system, it had to be determined from a sporting point of view which teams could compete in the K3 League Advance and in the K3 League Basic in the next season . The team finished 17th and was relegated to the newly founded K3 League Basic. In the first round of the cup, the club competed against the amateur team from SMC Engineering . They lost the game 2: 3.

Present (2017-)

The club is currently in last place in the K3 League Basic. So far the team has lost all of their games. The cup season ended in the first round. They played against Daejeon Baejae University and lost the game 2-0.

Stadion

The club first played their games in the Seoul Olympic Stadium from 2007 to 2009 . In 2012 they played again for one season in this stadium. From 2009 to 2010, the club played its games in the Hyochang Stadium . Since 2011 they have played their games in the Madeul Stadium .
