The K3 League Advance was the top division of the K3 League . Only K3 League members played in it. In 2019 it was a semi-professional football league. At the end of 2019 it was dissolved in favor of a new K3 League .

history

prehistory

The league was founded in 2007 under the name K3 League . Before the league was founded, there were many amateur teams who wanted to join the KFA and wanted to play in one of its leagues. However, many amateur teams had the problem that they could not meet the financial requirement. Usually only amateur teams that were supported by city administrations or large companies were included in the KFA. Teams that did not have this support had practically no chance to meet the requirements of the KFA. The KFA therefore decided to found a league in which the teams that could not meet the requirements financially could play. The requirements for joining this league were specially adapted so that it was easy for amateur teams to join it.

First years

In the first few years the league was played in a round-trip system. As in the Korea National League , the top two teams in their rounds qualified for the championship. The first champions became Seoul United FC . In the following years more and more clubs joined the K3 League. In the first year 10 teams took part in league games and in the following season 16 teams. In 2009, 17 teams took part in league games. From the 2011 season a league cup was held with the members of the K3 League.

Years to come and problems to come

In the following years, some teams were even able to sign semi-professional and professional players. But this resulted in a strong difference in quality. The first champions of the K3 League, Seoul United, no longer managed to build on their old successes like other clubs. The low point was the 2015 season, when the club Seoul Martyrs FC failed to score a point in 25 games and conceded 284 goals.

Reform of the K3 League

Due to the great difference in quality, the K3 League members decided that a two-league system should be set up in the K3 League. In the 2016 season, it was decided who would stay in the first division and who would go to the newly founded second division.

Way into semi-professional football

Due to the plans of the KFA, according to which the two K3 leagues should form the new semi-profile leagues from 2020, the K3 League is currently working on the league conversion from amateur football to semi-professional football. For this purpose, a 6-point plan was developed with the aim of successfully converting the K3 League into a semi-professional league. At the beginning of 2018, the first point of the plan was implemented. Since the beginning of 2018 it has been stipulated that advance teams must pay at least 3 players an annual salary and that basic teams must pay at least 1 player a fixed annual salary. The 2019 season will be played for the first time as a semi-professional football league. At the end of 2019 it was dissolved in favor of a new K3 League .

League problems

In addition to the enormous difference in quality, the K3 League had to struggle with corruption. Seoul Pabal FC has been shown to have purchased their games. After this became known, however, the club was banned from the K3 League. In addition, some teams had financial problems, so they had to withdraw from the K3 League. One of these clubs was Changwon United FC .
