The K5 League is the highest amateur league in South Korean football . It was founded in 2019 as a result of the structural reform plans of the KFA. Since the K3 League Advance and the K3 League Basic were semi-professional, it is now considered the highest amateur league in South Korea. The league is also part of the Division League Association.
Structure, organization
Originally 6 seasons with 52 teams were planned for the first season, but it was decided for the 2019 season with a total of 11 seasons and 67 clubs. The K5 League is the highest regional league in South Korea. The league is comparable to the German Regional Football League .
The division association is responsible for the organization and implementation. With the exception of the Gwangju / Jeollanam-do relays, there are 6 teams in all other relays. The respective winners of the relays automatically qualify for the Korean FA Cup . At the same time, the teams hold a play-off tournament. The worst teams in each season are relegated. It is not yet known whether 6 or 7 or 12 or 14 match days will be played. The season starts in April and ends in October. Then the play-off tournament takes place.
