Gimpo Citizen FC is a soccer franchise based in Gimpo , South Korea . The club takes part in the K3 League Advance , the fourth highest division in South Korea.

history

founding

The municipality of Gimpos announced the founding of the Gimpo Citizen FC association on January 29, 2013 , which takes part in the K3 League . The club's first coach was Yu Jong-wan.

First seasons (2013-2015)

The first season went well for the club. As most of the clubs don't play a good premiere season, Gimpo Citizen FC came out 4th in the group stage. The club failed with 4 points behind in 3rd place in the championship games. The club managed to qualify for the cup due to their placement. However, the following season was very disappointing. The club finished the regular season in 8th place. In addition, the club was deducted 9 points for violating the rules of the game and therefore ended the season with only 20 points as penultimate. Her first cup participation did not go well either. In the first main round, the club failed with a 1: 3 at Yeungnam University .

Despite the bad season, Yu Jong-wan continued to coach. The following season was her best season so far. The club finished the regular season tied with Hwaseong FC in first place and qualified for the championship final for the first time. In the championship semifinals you played against Gyeongju Citizen FC . The game ended 2-2. In the subsequent penalty shootout, the club had to admit defeat 4: 5 against Gyeongju Citizen FC and were eliminated. Their cup season was also much better than in the previous season. In the first round you competed against the company amateur team from LG Electronics and won it 3: 1 at home. In the subsequent round you played again at home against Chuncheon FC and won this game again. In the 3rd main round they received the Hongik University , which they defeated after a regular 2: 2, on penalties with 3: 2. In the subsequent cup round, however, they had to admit defeat to Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dolphins 2-0.

Establishment in the new K3 League (2016-2018)

In the 2016 season, the clubs were concerned with qualifying for the 4th or the new 5th league. Gimpo himself had a very good season. With only one point behind FC Pocheon , the club had to be content with second place, but managed to qualify for the new K3 League Advance straight away . In the championship quarter-finals they faced Jeonju FC , against which they surprisingly lost 1-0. No successes could be celebrated in the cup this time either. In their first round they played against Yongin University and lost this game just 3-2.

In the premiere season of the new K3 Advance, the club finished the regular season in 5th place, which entitled them to the championship finals. However, they were defeated in the quarterfinals by Cheongju City FC , which thanks to their home rights were the winners at 3: 3. Again, the club was eliminated early in the cup. The club lost 4-0 against Busan IPark . After the end of the season, the club announced that they would no longer renew their contract with Yu Jong-wan. He was succeeded by Kim Seung-ki.

Kim Seung-ki was able to record a good 3rd place in his first season with the team. In the quarter-finals this time they played against Icheon Citizen FC and were subject to Icheon 1: 1 due to the home law regulation. It went better in the cup this time. In their first round they faced league rivals Pyeongtaek Citizen FC , which they won 2-1. In the subsequent round, however, they were defeated by Suwon Samsung Bluewings 1: 6.

Present (2019–)

The club signed a new coach for the 2019 season. Oh Jong-ryeol became the club's third coach in early 2019. There weren't any great successes in the cup this season either. In their first round they competed against Yonsei University and won this game 4-0. In the subsequent round, however, the club had to bow to Gyeongju KHNP FC with 1: 2 and were eliminated. On October 1, 2019, the club announced that it had submitted an application for the new K3 League , which should begin in 2020.
