Cheongju FC is a soccer franchise based in Cheongju City , South Korea . The club will compete in the K3 League Advance , the fourth highest division in South Korea. According to the plans of the Cheongju city council, the club should compete in the K League in the coming years . At the end of 2018, the clubs Cheongju FC and Cheongju City FC merged into a new club.
history
prehistory
In the city of Cheongju there were two amateur clubs that played in the K3 League Advance until the end of 2018. These were Cheongju FC and Cheongju City FC . The city of Cheongju planned to join the K League with Cheongju City FC , but since it was too big for the city due to the financial requirements to be able to play in the K League, the city administration decided not to approve the budget for the K League Cheongju City FC give. Since the city could not afford a professional and amateur club at the same time, both merged to form a new Cheongju FC .
founding
The new club name was announced in early 2019. According to the city council, the new club will be called Cheongju FC . The coaching team of Cheongju City FC was taken over in the merged club, but the coach of Cheongju City FC, Kwon Oh-kyu, left the coaching team and accepted an offer at Bucheon FC in 1995 as co-coach.
