SMC Corporation is the name of a group of companies specializing in pneumatics , control and automation technology with headquarters in Tokyo .

history
The Shoketsu Kinzoku Kogyo co. Ltd. Established in 1959 in Tokyo, Chiyoda-ku, with the aim of manufacturing and selling sintered metal filters. Two years later, the manufacture and sale of equipment for compressed air lines, such as compressed air maintenance units, began. The manufacture and sale of automatic control systems began in 1961. The drives were added to the range in 1970. In 1985, the business was expanded to include the manufacture and sale of various filter models. The company was renamed SMC Corporation in 1985. The SMC shares were listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. In China, the production began 1996. 1998 was ISO 9001 - certificate and in 1999 the ISO 14001 awarded certificate. In 2000 the ETC (European Technical Center) was built in England and in 2002 the Technical Center in the USA (UTC). The European Central Warehouse (ECW) started operations in Belgium in 2004. The technical center is based in China. The Technical Center (Technical Development Center) was opened in Germany in 2008.
