FC Uijeongbu was a football franchise from the city of Uijeongbu in South Korea . The club recently took part in the K3 League Basic , the fifth highest division in South Korea.

history

Beginnings of the association (2014-2016)

The association was founded by the Uijeongbus city administration. In March 2013 the city council announced on its website that it wanted to found a club that would play in the K3 League . On October 6, 2013 the mayor of the city signed an association founding document. The association was officially founded on March 29, 2014. Kim Hee-tae was hired as a coach .

In their first K3 League season they were placed in Group B. There they reached 6th place after 25 games. In 2014 they did not compete in the Korean FA Cup, as the cup season started a week before the club was founded.

In the following season, the club was assigned to Group A. There he was penultimate after 25 games. The cup season did not go well either. There they were eliminated in the second round against Hongik University at home with 1: 4.

In 2016, all K3 League members competed against each other in a relay. Out of 20 clubs, only 12 could qualify for the K3 League Advance . Uijeongbu lost 18 out of 19 games and won the last match on the last day of the match. Even before the last game, the relegation to the newly founded K3 League Basic was certain. The cup season went a little better. In the first round they played away with the amateur team SK Hynix and won there with 2: 1. However, in the 2nd round it was again over for Uijeongbu. In the second round, the U-League team Sungkyunkwan University lost 3: 4.

Relegation and end of the club (2017-2018)

The 2017 season was mixed. The club lost the first four league games, but then gradually recovered and points. At the end of the regular season they were in 5th place in the table, which meant qualifying for the play-off games. In the play-off games they played against the favorite Siheung Citizen FC , against whom they surprisingly won 2-1 and were thus in the final. In the final they met Pyeongtaek Citizen FC . The final game ended 2-2, but since Pyeongtaek had home rights, Pyeongtaek was considered the winner of the final game and thus rose. The cup season again ended very early for Uijeongbu. In the first round they played against the league rivals Seoul Jungnang FC , which they lost at home with 2: 5.

2018 was a very difficult season for the clubs. The club was last in the table from the start and had little chance against the other clubs. At the end of the season, they got two wins and two draws from just 20 games. The club conceded 104 goals, which meant a new negative record in the league. Things didn't go well for the club in the cup either. In the first main round they failed at Pukyeong National University with 1: 3 and thus dropped out again very early. After the season ended, the rumor arose that the city wanted to dissolve the club due to its failure and unpopularity among the population. Until the start of the pre-season there was no comment in this regard. After the preparation officially began, the club did not invite any players to practice training. One week after the start of the preparations, the club stated that they did not want to register a first team and would disband.
