FC Anyang is a football franchise based in Anyang , South Korea . The franchise currently plays in the K League 2 , the second-highest division in South Korea.
history
founding
The association was founded on October 10, 2012 by the city of Anyang. After the K League announced that they wanted to integrate a second professional league into their league system, the call for an Anyang club in the city became very loud. As the first coach of the newly founded professional club, the city presented Lee Uh-hyeong .
Lee Uh-hyeong era (2013-2015)
In their first professional league season, the club played mostly in the middle of the table and reached 5th place in the league after the end of the season. In 2013, the club couldn't achieve much in the cup either. In their first round of the Cup, they faced Cheongju Jikji FC at home and won the game 5-4 after extra time. In the 3rd main round of the cup there was a cup derby against the old arch-rival Suwon Samsung Bluewings . Anyang lost the game 2-1 with two goals in the last 7 minutes against Suwon and was eliminated from the cup.
The 2014 season was much better. At the end of the fourth match day, FC Anyang was in first place, but could not defend it until the end of the season. The club occasionally slipped down to 7th place, but then managed the U-turn. The club advanced to 2nd place in the meantime and was able to consolidate 3rd place at the end of the season. After the club lost the last two league games, however, the club had to be content with fifth place, tied on points but with a worse goal difference against Gwangju FC . With that they just missed the play-off games. The cup season was just as bad as last year. In their first round they met Sungkyunkwan University , which they could beat 2-0. However, they lost their second cup game against the Pohang Steelers 4-5 on penalties. Thus, the club retired again in the 3rd main round of the cup.
2015 was a tough season for Anyang. The club started the season well with two wins, but then lost many games. In June 2015, Lee Uh-hyeong was fired from the club after the club was bottom of the table. The interim coach Lee Yeong-min was hired as his successor .
Lee Yeong-min era (2015-2016)
Under Lee Yeong-min, the team won again and Anyang fought their way up to 6th place. In the cup, the club was able to advance to the 4th main round this time. In their first round, the club met Woosuk University , which they could beat 2-0. In the next round they met Jeju United . The club lost 4-1 against Jeju United.
In 2016, the club did better in the league. After the end of the 2nd match day they were in 3rd place, but the club slipped further and further during the course of the season and ended the season in 9th place. In the second round, they were able to fight their way back to the 4th main round. In their first round they met the Korea National League club Gimhae City FC , which they could just beat 3-2. In the following lap they met Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors . At home you had to admit defeat to the first division team this time too . They lost this game again 1: 4. At the end of the season, the club's management fired Lee Yeong-min. Kim Jong-pil was introduced as the successor .
Kim Jong-pil Era (2017)
Under Kim Jong-pil, the club played no role in the hoped-for promotion. The club played relatively consistently in places 5 to 7. After the end of the regular season they ended up in 7th place. Their cup season was like the previous years. In their first round they met Gwangju Honam University , which they could beat 1-0 at home. In the next round it came to the Hanpuri derby . FC Anyang had to play away at arch-rivals FC Seoul . There they lost 2-0 again, but the team showed a strong performance. The Anyang fans caused a sensation when they set off massive pyrotechnics after the start of the game and let them burn down. For this offense, the association punished the club with a fine. At the end of the season, Kim Jong-pil was released and Ko Jeong-un was introduced as his successor .
present
The season was disappointing for Ko Jeong-un. The club slipped to the bottom of the table after the 3rd matchday and only left after the 23rd matchday. From then on, the club was able to fight its way up to 5th place before the club ended the season in 6th place. The cup season was similar to the previous seasons. In the third main round, the club received Changwon City FC , which they could defeat 2-1. In the 4th main round, however, the club was surprisingly eliminated against Mokpo City FC with 1: 2. After the end of the season Ko Jeong-un had to leave the club again due to the sporting performance in the league. He was succeeded by Kim Hyeong-yeol .
Under the leadership of Kim Hyeong-yeol, the club surprised athletically. From the beginning of the season, the club played for the play-off games and was able to defend 3rd place in the league from matchday 18. The club reached the play-off games for the first time in the club's history. In the play-off semi-finals, the club received eternal league rivals Bucheon FC in 1995 . In front of 6,017 spectators, the club finished the game 1: 1. Since the club had the home rights, FC Anyang won the semi-final game and next competed against busan IPark FC in Busan . The final game was just lost 1-0 in Busan. Although the club could not reach the relegation games, the club was able to trigger a euphoria in the city. The cup season was also much better than the previous seasons. In their first round, they received the semi-professional club Icheon Citizen FC , which they could defeat 5-1 without any problems. In the following round, they competed at Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in Jeonju . The club was surprisingly able to win the cup game 1-0. In the round of 16, however, the club failed very close to Changwon City FC with 1: 2.

Fan scene
The fan scene consists of various active fan groups. The largest and most important Ultras group is the Anyang Supporters Union RED for short ASU Red. This group was founded in 1997 and at the time supported the predecessor club of FC Seoul , Anyang LG Cheetahs. After the club moved to Seoul in 2004, the group campaigned for a new Anyang club , similar to Bucheon FC in 1995 . The group has supported the club since FC Anyang was founded in 2013. The group itself consists of several hundred active fans. The ASUReds attract attention again and again due to their choreography and the use of pyrotechnics in the football scene.
rivalry
Anyang fans currently have five active rivals, including three arch-rivals FC Seoul , Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Bucheon FC 1995 , and Suwon FC and Ansan Greeners FC . The fan scene does not cultivate club friendships with other clubs.
The Hanpuri Derby (in German: Contempt Derby) is the most important derby for the fan scene. The derby is always played against the successor club of Anyang LG Cheetahs, FC Seoul. The derby is extremely explosive due to its historical and political significance. The background to the contempt on the part of Anyang was the move to Seoul. The city of Anyang tried to persuade the club's owner, LG Group, to stay there with offers such as the construction of the Anyang Stadium, as the club was deeply rooted in the city. After the move was established, the LG Group had to deal with boycotts, protests and immense damage to its image. The fans of FC Seoul are insulted today by Anyang fans as Bukpae (in German: traitors from the north; Seoul is north of Anyang) and do not recognize FC Seoul as the successor club.
The original Clasico is a derby between FC Anyang and their old rivals Suwon Samsung Bluewings from Anyang LG Cheetahs times. The derby is considered to be the successor to the Jijidae derby , which previously existed between Suwon Samsung Bluewings and the Anyang Cheetahs. The original Clasico has the same historical significance as the Jijidae Derby. Both fan camps are also considered to be absolutely enemies, alongside FC Seoul as a common rival. This derby is also highly explosive due to its history.
The Dongbyeongsangryeon Derby is considered the second division super match in South Korea and is always played against Bucheon FC in 1995. Both clubs and fan camps suffered the same fate: while Anyang LG Cheetahs moved to Seoul in 2004, Bucheon SK had to move away from Bucheon at the end of 2005. As in Anyang, Bucheon SK had deep roots in their city. In 2013, both clubs joined the K League and from then on met each other every season. While the derby was a solidarity derby in the first few seasons , a real derby developed due to the sporting and geographical proximity. Both fan camps are considered enemies.
The line 4 derby is a derby with Ansan Greeners FC . The derby is primarily a geographic derby (due to its proximity). The derby got explosive when the mayors of both cities made bets on which city would have the better team. The derby is considered in the K League 2, as the derby with the most spectators.
The Mini Jijidae Derby is a derby against Suwon FC. The name of the derby is based on the former derby between Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Anyang LG Cheetahs. Their derby was called the Jijidae derby. The Mini Jijidae Derby is therefore the "smaller Anyang Suwon Derby" between the new Anyang and the smaller Suwon clubs. The derby arose from the founding of FC Anyang and joining the newly founded K League Challenge (now K League 2) by Suwon FC in 2013. Both fan camps are considered enemies.
