Ansan Greeners FC is a soccer franchise based in Ansan , South Korea . The team plays in the K League 2 , the second highest division in South Korea. The club largely emerged from the Ulsan Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Dolphin FC franchise , which competed in the Korea National League and broke up in 2016 .

history

founding

The franchise was founded in 2016 and will play in the K League Challenge from the 2017 season. As the city council of Ansans did not renew the cooperation agreement with the army, Ansan Mugunghwa FC was dissolved at the end of 2016 . The city wanted a club that could advance to the K League Classic . Therefore it was decided to found a new association. On December 6, 2016, the city announced what the association would be called. Since December 6th the club has been officially called Ansan Greeners FC . The club's first coach was Lee Heung-sil , who previously coached Ansan Mugunghwa FC.

Lee Heung-sil Era (2017-2018)

Under Lee Heung-sil, the club won 2-1 against Daejeon Citizen on matchday one. In the course of the season, however, the club could not play a major role in the challenge and continued to slide. The season ended in 9th place. In the cup they were eliminated in their 1st round. In the 3rd round of the Korean FA Cup they met Gangneung FC , but lost 1-0 on penalties in Gangneung . For the second season new players were signed with whom they wanted to achieve the goal of the play-off games. The 2018 season got off to a very good start. The club was on a play-off pitch until the 9th matchday, before slipping down piece by piece to the last place in the table. On August 21, 2018, the club pulled the rip cord and put Lee Heung-sil on leave. Lee Yeong-min took over the post of trainer on an interim basis, but he was unable to initiate a turnaround either, so that on September 30, 2018, he was relieved of his duties as interim trainer and was co-trainer again. The club signed the coach Im Wan-seob . Under his leadership, the club was able to climb to 8th place in the table. Things went better for the club in the cup. In the first round they played against Suwon University at home and were able to confidently beat them 7-0. In the subsequent round, however, they lost against league rivals Asan Mugunghwa FC in extra time with 0: 1.

Present (2019-)

Under Im Wan-seob the squad was turned inside out. New foreign players and good local players were signed up. However, shortly after the start of the season, the Wan-seob suffered a setback. They surprisingly lost 3-2 in the cup against fourth division club Hwaseong FC and were eliminated very early.

Fan scene

The fan scene consists of an active fan group, the Verdor , which was also founded in 2017 with the establishment of Ansan Greeners FC. It consists of 50 to 100 active fans.

rivalry

Ansan fans currently have two active rivals, one with Seongnam FC and the other with FC Anyang . The fan scene does not cultivate club friendships with other clubs.

The Annam Derby was created by the relegation of Seongnam FC in 2016. The derby itself has a political and historical significance. Originally, the Unification Church wanted to sell the Seongnam Ilhwa Chunma FC association to the city of Ansan. After the plans became known, there were protests across the K League and the city of Seongnam lobbied to buy the club. Ultimately, the association was sold to the city of Seongnam. To this day, Ansan and Seongnam fans have great tensions with one another because of this.

The Line 4 derby is primarily a geographic derby (due to its proximity). The derby got explosive when the mayors of both cities made bets on which city would have the better team. The derby is considered to be the most popular derby in K League 2 .
