The K League 1 2020 (also called KEB Bank K League 1 2020 for sponsorship reasons ) is the third season of the highest South Korean football league under this name and the 38th season since it was officially founded in 1983. The season was originally supposed to start in early March and should end in early December. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in South Korea , the season only started on May 8, 2020. The defending champions are Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors . The newcomers are Gwangju FC and Busan IPark .
The military club Sangju Sangmu FC will be dissolved at the end of the season and replaced by a municipal club. The municipal club will compete in K League 2 , so Sangju Sangmu FC is officially relegated.

Up to the 13th matchday, the league games were played without spectators. According to KFA regulations, clubs have been able to resell tickets since August 1, 2020. Only 10% of the stadium capacity may be used.
The season should actually start at the beginning of March. Since the COVID-19 virus spread rapidly in South Korea from February 19, the association decided on February 24 to cancel the start of the league and the first three match days. Shortly afterwards, the start of the league was postponed indefinitely. On March 27, the association announced that the number of league games had been reduced from 37 to 32 match days. The association also converted the Paju NFC into a COVID-19 station for sick players.
On April 24th, the association announced that the league would start on May 8th. The upcoming game days will all be carried out as ghost games . The association also announced that the number of match days had been further reduced from the originally planned 32 to 27 match days.
