The 1996 Professional Tournament was the fourteenth season of the South Korean soccer league . The league consisted of nine clubs. Suwon Samsung Bluewings joined the K League this season. They each played against each other four times. The champions of the semi-series played against each other in the championship.

Championship play-off
The champions of the first half series played against the champions of the second half series in a play-off round with a round trip for the championship. The first leg took place on November 9, 1995 and the second leg took place on November 16, 1995. The winner took part in qualifying for the 1997 Asian Club Championship .
