The Steel Yard Stadium is a football stadium in the South Korean city of Pohang . It seats 17,443 spectators and is the home of the Pohang Steelers association .
history
The stadium was built in 1990 and opened on November 1st of the same year. Since that day, the Pohang Steelers club has been playing its home games in the Steelyard Stadium. The Steelers have been South Korean football champions four times to date and have won the South Korean Cup twice. The club is also the record champion of the AFC Champions League , the largest club competition in Asia, with three wins . By winning the Asian Champions League in 2009 , Pohang also took part in the FIFA Club World Cup 2009 , reached third place and only failed in the semi-finals at the top Argentine club Estudiantes de La Plata .
The Steelyard Stadium can have a capacity of 17,443 seats. By 2013 the stadium capacity was even 25,000. The stadium was built in 1990 and when it opened it was the first stadium in South Korea to be used exclusively for football matches.
