The Malaysia Super League 2020 ( Liga Super Malaysia 2020 ), which is also called CIMB Bank Liga Super Malaysia for sponsorship reasons , is the 17th season of the highest Malay football league . The season started with 12 teams on February 28, 2020. The defending champion was Johor Darul Ta'zim FC .

On March 13, 2020, it was announced that the league would be suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic . On May 1, 2020 it was announced that the league will resume in September depending on the situation. If league operations are not allowed to resume in September, the season will be canceled. Due to time constraints, the home and away format for the Super League and the Premier League has been canceled. The teams now play against each other only once, which means that the champions of the Super League and Premier League will be decided after eleven rounds.

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualifies for the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2021 . The runner-up qualifies for the group stage of the AFC Cup 2021 . The two clubs with the fewest points were relegated to the second-rate Malaysia Premier League .
