Founded in 2004 as MIFA (Malaysian Indian Football Association), the club currently competes in the Malaysia Super League. The club belongs to the QI Group. The club was founded to represent Petaling Jaya. In 2014 the club was renamed MISC-MIFA. In 2016, the club won the FAM League title in Malaysia and thus rose to the second division of Malaysian football, the Malaysia Premier League . After finishing third in the Premier League in 2018, the club was promoted to the Malaysia Super League. On January 16, 2019, the club renamed itself Petaling Jaya City Football Club.
