The dam Valdeobispo ( Spanish Presa de Valdeobispo ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Cáceres , Spain . It dams the Alagón , which forms the border between the municipalities of Montehermoso and Valdeobispo , into a reservoir. The dam is used for both power generation and irrigation. It was completed in 1965 (or 1968). The dam is state-owned; it is operated by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Tajo . The concession to operate the power station was granted to Iberdrola .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 56 (or 57) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 312 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 135 (or 140) m. The volume of the dam is 90,000 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 24 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 2750 (or 3000) m³ / s via the flood discharge. A further 53 m³ / s can be discharged via the irrigation channel. The design flood is 1354 (or 3150 or 3228) m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 308 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 3.57 km² and holds 53 (or 54) million m³ of water; 53 million m³ of this can be used. The reservoir extends over a length of 17 km.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 40 MW . The fall height is 47 m. The maximum flow rate is 50 m³ / s for each of the two turbines. The nominal speed of the turbines is 230 min −1 .
