The Guijo de Granadilla Dam ( Presa de Guijo de Granadilla in Spanish ) is a dam with hydropower plant in the municipality of Guijo de Granadilla , Cáceres Province , Spain . It dams the Alagón to a reservoir. The dam is used to generate electricity. It was completed in 1982. The dam is owned and operated by Iberdrola Generacion SA .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 48 (or 51.5) m above the foundation base . The top of the wall is at a height of 332 m above sea level . The length of the top of the wall is 210 m. The volume of the dam is 95,410 m³.

The dam wall has both a bottom outlet and a flood relief . A maximum of 16 m³ / s can be discharged via the bottom outlet, and a maximum of 2020 (or 2200) m³ / s via the flood discharge. The design flood is 2000 m³ / s.

Reservoir

With the normal storage target of 329 m, the reservoir extends over an area of ​​around 1.24 km² and holds 13 (or 14) million m³ of water; 3 million m³ of this can be used to generate electricity.

power plant

The installed capacity of the power plant is 48.6 (or 52 or 53) MW . The power plant can be operated as a pumped storage power plant. The maximum power consumption in pumping operation is 50 MW. The fall height is 25 m. The maximum flow rate is 240 m³ / s. The machine house is in the middle of the dam.
