Cotriguaçu , officially Portuguese Município de Cotriguaçu , is a small town with a large municipality in the north of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso . The population was estimated on July 1, 2019 at 19,750 inhabitants, who are called Cotriguaçuenses ( cotriguaçuenses ) and live on a municipal area of around 9421 km². Mathematically, this results in a population density of 1.6 inhabitants per km². Statistically, it ranks 48th out of the state's 141 municipalities. It is located 950 km from the capital Cuiabá .

Surrounding communities in the Midwest region are Juruena , Colniza , Nova Bandeirantes .
The biome is the Amazon rainforest (Amazônia), the climate is tropical. The municipality holds large shares in the Igarapés do Juruena State Park and the Juruena National Park . To the east the community is bounded by the Rio Juruena . On this is also the indigenous reserve Terra Indígena Escondido of 169,649 hectares, which is inhabited by Rikbaktsas .
