Monterrico is a city in the Jujuy Province of Argentina. It is located in the northwest of the El Carmen department , 30 km from the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy , in the so-called Valle de los Pericos.

Celebrations

National Tobacco Festival

In May there is the National Tobacco Festival, a festival of music and gauchos.

People from Perico , El Carmen , San Salvador de Jujuy, Güemes and other places gather for this festival in honor of tobacco, a plant that moves the entire regional economy.

Student party

It is a festival that takes place in Jujuy Province. Each high school (private or state) elects its queen. Then there is an election at the departmental level, then an election at the provincial level and finally the national election. There are also other activities like the parade of floats, where more than 40 schools make their floats or carriages (depending on size). The festival spans most of September, with most of the activities taking place on September 21st (Student Day).
