Perico is a city in northwest Argentina . It is located in the southern province of Jujuy , 26 kilometers east of the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy and has 49,125 inhabitants (2010, INDEC ).

location

Perico is located in the valley of the Río Grande de Jujuy , which drains the Quebrada de Humahuaca . The mountainous surrounding area belongs to the vegetation zone of the subtropical cloud forest , while most of the rainforest in the valley has been cut down and is used intensively for agriculture.

The city was founded on October 29, 1813.

Tropical agriculture is practiced around Perico. Tobacco and citrus fruits are particularly characteristic of the region.

In the municipality of Perico is the international airport of San Salvador de Jujuy .
