San Pedro , usually referred to as San Pedro de Jujuy , is the capital of the San Pedro department of the same name in the Jujuy Province in north-western Argentina . It is located in the east of the province and with 57,018 inhabitants (2001, INDEC ) is the second largest city after the provincial capital San Salvador de Jujuy .
location
San Pedro is located in the valley of the Río San Francisco , a connecting river between the Río Grande de Jujuy and the Río Bermejo . The area belongs to the vegetation zone of the subtropical rain and cloud forest and has a rainy, humid and subtropical warm climate.

Culture
The Museo Histórico, Arqueológico y de Arte "Pedro Balduín" is housed in one of the oldest buildings in the city from the end of the 18th century, the " Sala de los Aráoz ". The archaeological section displays stone and ceramic work of the San Francisco culture from the region. The historical hall exhibits furniture and objects belonging to people and institutions from San Pedro. Historical photographs and oil paintings are also shown in an exhibition room that is also used for cultural events.
economy
The city lives mainly from tropical and subtropical agriculture, especially from sugar cane and tobacco cultivation and the related processing industry.
history
In the 18th century, the Hacienda San Pedro residence was located in the area of the city . The place itself was only founded in 1883 by Eugenio Tello. In 1886 a sugar cane factory, the Ingenio La Esperanza, was established.
