Kuala Terengganu , with its 298,000 inhabitants, is the capital of the state of Terengganu on the northeast coast of Malaysia and the residence of the Sultan of Terengganu.

Kuala Terengganu is located about 500 kilometers northeast of Kuala Lumpur . The city is connected to other places by a well-developed road network and a few ferry connections. There is a medium-sized domestic airport outside the city.

The city's economy is dominated by food and textile trade, fishing, agriculture and tourism, especially as a base for trips to the Perhentian Islands .

The crystal mosque was built in 2008.
