Perhentian Islands

The Perhentian Islands ( Malay : Pulau Perhentian ) are off the east coast of the Malay Peninsula located archipelago in the South China Sea . The islands belonging to the Malaysian state of Terengganu are about 10 nautical miles (19 km) from the port of Kuala Besut and almost 64 km from Thailand .

The two main islands are Perhentian Besar ("Greater Perhentian") and Perhentian Kecil ("Little Perhentian"). Near Perhentian Kecil are the small uninhabited islands of Susu Dara , Seringgi and Rawa . The islands are part of the Pulau Redang National Marine Park . Fishing and throwing away rubbish is prohibited.

The islands are covered in jungle and surrounded by white sandy beaches with simple to luxurious beach resorts. The highest point is about 344 meters above sea level.

On the island of Perhentian Kecil there is a fishing village with a port and school. There are no roads. The islands are becoming more and more famous for their excellent diving and snorkeling opportunities .
