The Shah Alam Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium with an athletics facility in the east of the city of Shah Alam in Malaysia . The arena is owned by the city of Shah Alam and currently has 69,372 seats. Some seats can be converted into standing places, which then increases the capacity to 80,000 seats. A total of 5,500 parking spaces are available for visitors around the stadium.
The Shah Alam Stadium was designed by the architect Hijjaz Kasturi. Construction began in 1991; the opening of the stadium was celebrated on July 16, 1994 with the game Selangor FA against the team from Dundee United from Scotland . Currently the stadium is mainly used for soccer games. The Selangor FA football club plays its home games in the sports facility.
The arena is spanned by two large roof arches. Until the inauguration of the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in 1998, it was the largest stadium in Malaysia. The facility is located in a sports complex to which u. a. the multi-purpose hall Stadium Malawati with 12,000 seats, a go- kart track as well as a swimming pool and a diving center . In addition, here was racetrack Shah Alam Circuit to demolition in the year of 2003.
In 2007 the stadium hosted the group game Uzbekistan against China in Group C of the Asian Football Championship .
In addition to the cities of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok , the final tournament of the ASEAN football championship 2012 was also held in Shah Alam.
