Malaysia Super League 2016

The 2017 Malaysia Super League was the 14th season of the highest Malaysian football league since its inception in 2004 and the 36th competition for the Malaysian national championship. The season started on January 20 and ended on October 28, 2017. The defending champion was Johor Darul Ta'zim FC .

mode

The clubs played a double round-robin tournament , which resulted in a total of 22 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference from all games
  3. Number of goals in all games

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualified for the second qualifying round of the AFC Champions League 2018 . In addition, the winner of the Malaysia FA Cup should take part in the group stage of the AFC Cup 2018 . But since he did not receive a license and the league second who was actually advancing for him waived participation, the place remained vacant. The two clubs with the fewest points were relegated to the second-rate Malaysia Premier League .

Attendees

Melaka United returned to the Malaysia Super League as champions of the Malaysia Premier League in 2016 after a nine-year absence . The second newcomer, PKNS FC , last played in the Malaysian top league in the 2014 season.

The two promoted teams replaced the last two clubs in the 2016 season , PDRM FA and Terengganu FA . The PDRM FA had to return to the Malaysia Premier League after two years in the Malaysia Super League. For the Terengganu FA, relegation meant the end of their ten-year membership in the Malaysian upper house of football.
