Mitochondrial Replacement Therapy

The Mitochondrial Replacement Therapy (MRT) , German mitochondria -Austauschtherapie, is a medical technology in artificial insemination defective mitochondria of the egg of the mother by intact mitochondria another woman to replace.

There are three procedures:

  • maternal spindle transfer (MST)
  • pronuclear transfer (PNT)
  • polar body transfer (PBT)

The first child conceived under this therapy at the Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Science at Saint Barnabas Medical Center , New Jersey , Emma Ott, was born in 1997.
