The Jordan League 2016/17 was the 65th season of the highest Jordanian football league since it was founded in 1944. The season began on October 28, 2016 and ended on May 6, 2017. The defending champion was al-Wihdat .

mode

The clubs played a double round-robin tournament , which resulted in a total of 22 games per team. The game was played according to the 3-point rule (three points per win, one point per tie). The table was determined according to the following criteria:

  1. Number of points scored
  2. Goal difference from all games
  3. Number of goals in all games

At the end of the season, the team with the highest points qualified for the first qualifying round for the 2018 AFC Champions League . In addition, the winner of the Jordan FA Cup should take part in the group stage of the AFC Cup 2018 . Since the champions could also win the cup, the second in the league took over the place in the AFC Cup. The two clubs with the fewest points were relegated to the second-rate Jordan League Division 1 .

The Sahab SC returned to the Jordan League as champions of the Jordan League Division 1 in 2015 after 15 years of abstinence . The second newcomer, Mansheyat Bani Hasan , last played in the top Jordanian league in the 2014/15 season. The two promoted teams replaced the last two clubs in the 2015/16 season , Kufrsoum SC and al-Asalah . Both clubs had to return to the Jordan League Division 1 after just one year in the Jordan League.
