geography

Al-Karak is bordered by Madaba and Amman Governments to the north, Ma'an governorate to the east , at-Tafila governorate to the south and the Dead Sea to the west . It is divided into ten districts.

history

The area once belonged to the ancient state of Moab . The valley known as Wadi al-Hasa formed the border between Moab and the neighboring Kingdom of Edom in what is now the governorate of at-Tafila. Wadi al-Hasa currently forms the border between at-Tafila and the Karak governorate and is administratively part of the Karak governorate.

After the end of Moab, the area belonged to various empires, including those of the Persians , Nabataeans , Romans , Byzantines , Umayyads , Crusaders and Ottomans .

al-Karak became a governorate of Jordan on June 16, 1966.
